Toddler Fun

This gorgeous little baby girl came into our studio a few weeks ago for her 18 month portrait session. She had never had professional portraits made before so this was a totally new and fun experience for her.

Well, maybe not complete fun…. I have to admit, she didn’t really know what to think of me. I don’t know if it was the big mask covering up half of my face, or just being in a new place doing something not so normal in her routine, but she cried. A lot. She wanted Momma. Daddy. Anyone. And I could tell by looking at her that she kind of just wanted me to stop whatever it was I was doing.

Thats why I love this first photograph so much. It really conveys her strength in the midst of her sadness. See that little tiny tear right there? What a sweet dear girl.

This session was 60 minutes in length and she changed her outfit 3 times. It can cause more exhaustion for the child to go through so many changes, but having the extra time also for breaks, snacks and running around the studio can be helpful.

The Valentines scene was probably the hardest time for her. It could have been her dress, or maybe she just needed some snacks, but that was a hard moment for both she and I. The soft green dress was definitely her favorite, and was the last outfit at the very end of the session. Perhaps it took her that much time to warm up to me and to know she was in a safe place.

I am thankful we have worn masks while not knowing how Covid would affect others. But I really look forward to being able to show my friendly smiling face to these sweet children. I think it will be a better experience for her next time when I can smile and laugh at her and really become better friends with her.

Enjoy the sneak peek! I am so thankful I was able to create such wonderful memories for this family of their little girl at 18 months of age.
